The Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC) seal gives you, as a pet parent, peace of mind that you are not only using a quality product, but one that is proven to be effective and safe for your furry friend. VOHC requirements are strict and include two categories of claims: Helps Control Plaque and Helps Control Tartar.
Plaque is the bacteria-rich, soft layer that quickly forms on the surface of teeth. These bacteria cause gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) and start the process of periodontal disease. Tartar consists of calcium salts from saliva that are on the surface of the teeth and form a hard substance. This is difficult to remove by chewing or brushing. Products receive the VOHC seal after a review of data from studies conducted in accordance with VOHC protocols.
